From Faulding Pharmaceuticals to Mayne Pharma International

The history of Mayne Pharma International Pty Ltd is intricate and began with FH Faulding & Co Ltd (also referred to as Faulding Pharmaceuticals).

From 1865 until 2001 when the company was purchased by Mayne Group Ltd, Mayne Pharma was known as FH Faulding & Co where amongst other activities including pharmaceutical wholesaling and consumer health products, it built success around the optimisation and delivery of oral dosage form drugs.

Whilst retaining the pharmacy wholesaling business (with a name change to Symbion Pharmacy Services), in November 2005, Mayne Group Ltd demerged the previously owned Faulding manufacturing business to Mayne Pharma so the business could focus on its core competencies and have increased flexibility to implement appropriate strategies and a capital structure that would help facilitate its continued success.  At this point, Mayne Pharma had a capability to manufacture both injectible and oral pharmaceuticals.

In February 2007, Hospira Inc announced that it had completed the acquisition of Mayne Pharma as it tied in with the firms skills in specialty generic injectible pharmaceuticals.

However in November 2009, the oral pharmaceutical group of Mayne Pharma was purchased from Hospira by HalcyGen Pharmaceuticals Ltd. The company continues to trade as Mayne Pharma International Pty Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of HalcyGen Ltd, which is listed on the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX) under the code “HGN”.
